On behalf of Cardiff & Vale University Heath Board (C&V UHB), Cambria have been appointed by Willmott Dixon Construction (WDC) to provide Civil and Structural Consultant Engineering Services for the proposed SARC @ CRI project. The new and extension buildings are proposed to be constructed at the CRI site, in central Cardiff off Newport Road.
It proposed to form a new three storey building interconnected to the existing Cardiff Royal Infirmary (CRI) which is being renovated as part of the site’s masterplan as well as an extension to the existing Building 54/56This scheme is being delivered through the Designed for Life Framework: Building for Wales NHS framework.
The proposed development involves the demolition of the existing two/three storey Links Building to the east of the site and construct a new three storey concrete framed building connected to the main CRI buildings. Generally, all roofs are to be flat roofs housing plant rooms. This ‘New Links @ CRI building will re-house the DATT, CAU, CMHT, NEX and other outpatient services.
Also, as part of the scheme it is proposed to construct a new Sexual Assault Referral Centre (SARC) by providing a single storey pitched roof extension to the existing Building 54/56 formed of two connected three storey traditional buildings which currently houses the Community Addiction Unit (CAU). There will also be some internal changes to the existing buildings for the proposed layouts.
As part of a separate but linked scheme. the existing CRI buildings are being safeguarded, renovated, and repurposed as a Health & Wellbeing Centre. The overall masterplan for CRI will see a new central ‘heart’ to the hospital formed around Block 8 to which the New Links building will connect.
The existing carpark will also be reconfigured into a new layout due to the new buildings being constructed.
