Mining Assessments

We are very aware of the extensive mining activities which were prevalent in the UK and particularly so throughout South Wales and the South West. We have considerable expertise in designing above and around mine workings and how best to safely minimise their potential effect on the profitability of proposed developments. It is vital to establish the precise location on plan and depth of all the mining related features within the site, which initially involves discussions with the Coal Authority and obtaining copies of their engineering record drawings from their archives. These should identify the potential presence of all mine shafts, adits, lodes and other mine workings, which may be either beneath the site or with the zone of influence. With this information to hand we can provide a detailed Mining Assessment Report which:

  • Identifies the likely location of all mine features within the site and zone of influence
  • Provides recommendations to mitigate the effects any such mining features would have on the proposed works;
  • Provides a specification for the required site investigations to prove the exact locations and details of any mine features identified – particularly the shafts and adits;
  • Recommends any further work which may be necessary to mitigate the mining works encountered.
  • Provides recommendations for integrating the required mining mitigation works within the Civil and Structural design of the works.
