Cambria infrastructure team were invited by the Institution of Structural Engineers to present their ‘SuDs in Wales 2019’ lecture. The lecture was held on at 4:30pm on Wednesday 16th January at the North Building of the Cardiff University Engineering Department and presented by our Ben Whyman and Callum Parker.
The lecture was mainly attended by fellow Structural and Civils engineers as well as other design professionals.
The aim of the lecture was to discuss the principles of Sustainable drainage and review the potential changes as a result of the new SuDs legislation, looking particularly at the issues and potential benefits to the future development schemes in Wales.
From 7th January 2019, proposed new developments in Wales must be served Sustainable Drainage Systems (SuDs). The national SuDs standard in Wales will become mandatory and all designs will need to be approved by the local SuDs Approval Body (SAB). The standards will promote the use of ‘soft’ or above ground SuDs features. SABs will have more power and influence on drainage strategies and development masterplans.
If you are looking at a new developments in Wales and would like further advice on the impacts of the SuDs legislation please contact Ben Whyman ([email protected]) or Callum Parker ([email protected]).
