Inspiring the next generation

On Thursday 16th May, our structural Director, James Burgon attended Christ the King Primary School, Cardiff to share his engineering knowledge and inspire the next generation in the form of a STEM presentation and practical activities to Years 2 and 4. James covered the topic of Structural Engineering, highlighting what engineers are/do and why we need them, as well as talking about the types of school subjects they might need to consider for a future career in engineering including creative arts, IT, design technology and not just maths and science.

The children also looked at strong shapes and tall buildings – typically triangles; then undertook a task “100 Cup Challenge” to build as high as they could with 100 cups taking into consideration what they had learnt about earlier in the session i.e. large at the base getting smaller as they go up.

Cambria wholeheartedly believe we have a moral duty to highlight careers that they may not otherwise be introduced to at school or home; James was thrilled to be a part of such an important initiative.
