WIP Trago Mills Site Visit

June 21st, 2017

On 20th June 2017, our Practice Secretary and WiP South Wales Branch Events Co-ordinator Trish Michael organised a site visit in conjunction with Kier Construction to the media branded ‘retail juggernaut’ that is the Trago Mills department store located on the outskirts of Merthyr Tydfil Town centre on the site of the old Heolgerrig brickworks. The visit comprised of a brief yet informative presentation which provided attendees with a good overview of the site and its stages of development. Attendees were then taken on a tour of the site which really helped gain an insight into what the store will look like when it opens next year.

The site is owned and being developed by Trago Mills who are the original discount retailer based in the South West. The new store will comprise of a large retail area, café, carpet store, garden centre and green house. There will be eleven individual retail units along with a band stand, take away, ice cream store, adventure dome and model railway building and an extensive external car parking planned for the site.  The main contract works commenced on the 26th of September 2016 and the project is due to be completed in the Spring of 2018.

This site visit was particularly important to us as the Civil and Structural Engineers for the project and as one of the WiP South Wales Branch regional student award sponsors.
