Gabby recently took part in a litter pick at Coney Beach in Porthcawl, having been invited by Kier Group as part of their “Moving Through May” initiative. The cleanup, held on the morning of 22nd May, was also attended by students from Heronsbridge School, helping to promote a strong sense of community responsibility among young people.
As well as improving the appearance of the beach, volunteers contributed to protecting local wildlife, reducing litter-related hazards and enjoying some light outdoor exercise. Kier provided all necessary equipment for the day, including litter pickers, bags, hoops and gloves, and has been organising similar beach clean-up events across the UK for several years.
The event also supported Kier’s wider “Moving Through May” charity challenge, which encourages people to stay active by setting personal distance goals ranging from 50km to 1,000km over the course of the month. Participants can complete their distance through any non-motorised activity, such as walking, running, cycling or swimming. This year, the initiative saw nearly 200,000 kilometres covered and raised just over £160,000 for charity.
At Cambria, employees are encouraged to take part in community activities through an annual Environmental Day, which allows staff to volunteer for local causes. For Gabby, this marked her second consecutive year taking part in a beach clean-up, having previously joined a litter pick at Langland Bay in Mumbles in 2025, organised by the Marine Conservation Society.
Reflecting on the day, Gabby said: “Thanks to Kier for organising and for inviting us at Cambria Consulting along. It was good to spend some time outdoors, working alongside the students and helping to keep the beach clean. A small effort, but it all helps towards looking after the environment.”
