Cambria is delighted to share that our Civils Director, Laura Mitchell, has been elected Fellow of the Institution of Civil Engineers (ICE) – the highest level of professional recognition within the institution.
This prestigious honour reflects Laura’s nearly 20‑year contribution to civil engineering, her leadership across the industry, and her commitment to advancing resilient, sustainable infrastructure.
Laura described the Fellowship application process as both humbling and rewarding, offering a rare opportunity to reflect on two decades of collaboration, milestone project delivery, and her ongoing work to create safer, more sustainable communities.

Career Milestones
Laura joined Cambria as a Director in January 2023. Here are a few recent highlights from her nearly 20-year career in civil engineering:
Championing Sustainable Drainage
Laura is a passionate advocate of sustainable drainage (SuDS) and was particularly proud to see Cambria shortlisted in the SuDS Champions Awards 2023, after an independent client nomination. The nomination praised Cambria as an “Outstanding Team – who have worked together to inspire, inform and influence the delivery of multi-beneficial SUDs”.
Keynote Speaker
In 2024, Laura was invited as a keynote speaker at the CIWEM (The Chartered Institution of Water and Environmental Management) Flood and Coast 2024 conference where she presented the Oakdale residential project as an exemplar case study.
These opportunities to share experiences and contribute to industry conversations have been some of the most rewarding aspects of her career.
Sharing Knowledge, Doing Good
Another career highlight has been Laura’s tenure as Chair of the FBE Cambria Branch and Committee Member of Construction Club Cambria. These not-for-profit, altruistic organisations provide opportunities for networking, developing business partnerships, and improving technical knowledge whilst raising money for local causes. In her tenure as Chair she was delighted to raise £20,000 for her chosen charity: Headway.
The True Value of ICE Fellowship
Reflecting on her achievement, Laura said: “Engineering has always been about more than technical delivery for me. It is about creating lasting impact, mentoring future professionals, and helping shape a more resilient and sustainable built environment for generations to come.
“As I look ahead, I am excited to see how sustainable infrastructure continues to enhance our living, working and community spaces, furthering the integration of civils elements into the BIM environment.
“Using the platform of Fellow, I will be able to further support the next generation of engineers and continue to advocate for innovation, sustainability, and resilience across our industry.”
