Making a Difference: Why Our Charity Day Matters

At Cambria, we believe that giving back isn’t just good for the community – it’s good for us too. That’s why every member of our team is given a paid day each year to volunteer or support a charity of their choice. It’s a simple perk with a big impact. Trish recently faced the decision of choosing which charity to support for the day – and with so many incredible causes out there, she decided she couldn’t choose just one. Instead, Trish split her time between two charities that mean a lot to her.

For her first half-day, Trish joined Gwent Wildlife Trust earlier this year for a river clean in Ebbw Vale. Then last month, she spent the second half of her volunteering day at St David’s Hospice Care in Newport, taking part in the ‘Bulb Jamboree’ – where volunteers came together to plant 1,000 bulbs in the charity’s gardens.

The flowers will bloom in spring, bringing colour and life to the charity’s gardens, and making them a beautiful space for hospice patients and their loved ones to enjoy, and here’s why it matters.

Supporting Mental Wellbeing

Taking time away from the desk to do something meaningful can be incredibly rewarding. Volunteering offers a sense of purpose, reduces stress, and helps us reconnect with what really matters. Whether it’s planting bulbs in a hospice garden or cleaning up a local river, these activities give us space to breathe, reflect, and feel part of something bigger.

Helping the Environment

Many of the causes our team supports have a direct positive impact on the environment. From river clean-ups that protect local wildlife, to planting thousands of bulbs that will bloom into vibrant green spaces, these efforts contribute to a healthier planet. It’s a reminder that small actions, when multiplied, create lasting change.

Helping Charities Grow

Charities rely on volunteers to keep their vital services running. By dedicating even small amounts of time to these organisations, we help them do more of their incredible work, whether that’s providing care and comfort to families or creating safe, sustainable habitats for wildlife.

Our charity day isn’t just a perk – it’s part of our culture. It reflects our commitment to wellbeing, sustainability, and community. And most importantly, it shows that when we work together, we can make a real difference.
