Last week, Gabby Davies-McDermott used her charity day to support a local cause with a great impact: Rumney Forum.
At Cambria, each member of staff is given one paid day each year to volunteer with a local charity.
Run by local residents, Rumney Forum operates from Brachdy House (The Old Library), where it provides a thriving hub for the community. The organisation hosts regular events and activities, bringing people together, while also offering vital support to vulnerable individuals by sourcing and distributing donations to those in need.
Gabby joined Rumney Forum’s regular helpers, and volunteers from a range of local businesses, for a much-needed day helping the charity, which included:
- Sorting through waste and unwanted items (filling two whole skips!)
- Organising and packing up donations
- A structural report, completed by Cambria’s James Burgon
- A fire safety report, carried out by Twenty4 Fire & Security Ltd
A mountain of donations, doing a mountain of good
A significant part of the day was spent sorting through a large volume of donated items, which were then distributed to a number of organisations and community groups:
Tyndall Court
The accommodation, which supports unhoused locals, received three bags of coats, two bags of clothing and a selection of hair styling items. The clothes will benefit the residents directly, while the styling equipment will be used for planned ‘wellbeing days’.
28th Scouts
The scout group received a wide selection of camping equipment including tents, air beds, sleeping bags, mosquito nets and more.
Local dog charities
A large number of blankets and towels were distributed to local dog charities, to help support the animals they care for.
Additionally, certain donations were supplied directly to local families in need.
Small actions, making a big difference
The day was a great example of what can be achieved when people come together with a shared goal to make a positive difference. Volunteers gave their time, energy and expertise to support Rumney Forum’s ongoing work, helping to strengthen the vital role it plays in the local area.
Gabby said: “It was a very hands-on day, but it was a great reminder of how much work goes on behind-the-scenes work to support the local community.
“The day went incredibly smoothly thanks to Sarah Burge’s organisation, and we are grateful Sarah invited Cambria to take part. As a group, we managed to achieve loads in a single day – and I’m sure our efforts have been a huge benefit to Rumney Forum and everyone the charity supports.”
