Work Begins on New ALN School site in Clydach Vale

Construction is now underway on a brand new year school for pupils aged 3-19 with Additional Learning Needs (ALN) in Clydach Vale. This brownfield development will inject life to the former Council Headquarters site, supplying a much-needed modern facility for 176 ALN pupils.

With planning permission granted in March, the project is now underway, and Cambria Consulting Ltd are proud to be delivering the Civil and Structural Engineering Design. We will be working closely with Morgan Sindall as the project progresses, and look forward to seeing the state-of-the-art facility take shape.

The two-story school building is designed to ‘Net Zero’ Carbon in Operation Standards, and will feature a canteen, a hydrotherapy pool and 12 classrooms on the ground floor. On the first floor, there will be 11 classrooms and a wellbeing centre. Additionally, various multi-use spaces and supporting areas will be included across the two floors. The building’s southern side will have a secure roof terrace, and outside the building there are planned outdoor learning and play areas for the pupils to enjoy. Other facilities will include a 79-space car park (plus EV charging points), a ‘drop-off/pick-up’ area and dedicated bicycle storage.

With demand for ALN schools in the area exceeding their current capacity, this project is sure to be of huge benefit to the local community.
